Tim Roth Vs. Hugh Laurie
May 14 2009, 8:09 PM EDT | Post edited: May 14 2009, 8:09 PM EDT
There has been much buzz around the net about wo is the better actor. Both are seeming to shine in their respective Fox dramas, both are moderate heart-throbs, both are british? What do you think? Does Lightman run Circles around house? 4  out of 6 found this valuable. Do you?

i love em both. its hard to tell with their acting because they fit the characters so well. I'm sure they are both awesome guys to work with and be around in general.

i really cant comment on who is better because ive seen stuff of hugh off screen and hes quite funny but with out seem much of tim off set is hard to say.

but must say tim has a better walk than hugh. and i personally think tim is the better looker considering hugh is gettin a bit older (considering im 24)

i think they are very similar characters with big differences.

both cut even with me

aw, no contest...tim roth. hugh definitely gives tim a run for his money, but tim's just got something about him. he's short, which i find adorable, his walk is the freakin awesomest thing i've ever seen and his filmography is amazing...Reservoir Dogs, Rob Roy and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead happen to be my favorites, lol...and tim knows gary oldman and has worked with him a couple of times. definitely gives him the edge, lol... 1  out of 1 found this valuable. i think maybe hugh is coming to the end of his carreer while tim is just coasting along. i think house is hughs way out of acting and i think tim is using it more than easing out of the game.

and yeah tim does have that walk about him. its really sexy.

aw... and what am i if hes short im shorter than him...lol

My vote goes to Tim Roth!!!

Even though I believe House is sexy in a way, Lightman has this intensity about him... Tim Roth, definetely.

Hey everyone. Look, both of them had the problem of masking a british accent (Roth only early on, as he now refers to his co-stars on screen as "love") and Laurie has been accused of doing a bad american accent. Laurie definitely comes from comedy; he used to do sketches with Mr. Bean. Roth is certainly better prepared and he's got so many things right about the character, like how to fire away questions during interrogation, his walk, showing true emotion only at certain times. I have to call it a tie though, Laurie has received various accolades and so on. But Roth is an actor's actor. 0  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

No contest, Roth is a trained dramatic actor with a wealth of experience in varied roles. Laurie comes from a comedic background from Blackadder to a bit of Fry and Laurie (a long running scetch show with Stephen Fry), although I do enjoy house and Hugh Lauries performance, he has nowhere near the range of Tim Roth. 1  out of 2 found this valuable. see but then you gotta ask the question does hugh do an awesome jobe with out the training and consider them on an equal playin field.

and i think hugh gets away with the accent quite fine. one of my friends was shocked to find out that he was british. so i think you only notice because you know its there.

given that hugh doesnt have as much training as tim means that hugh is just as talented its just tim has the advantage of training and can take it just that bit further.

look at Shia or what ever his name is from transformers. he just got into do lil bits of acting to make money for his father. now hes a huge star. he had no training what made him so much better than everyone else? Tim obviously had talent that got noticed and hugh well worked from nothing.

so on a level playing field they break even.

you may favor one but the talent factor is pretty damn even.

Well argued! I still think Roth is the superior actor not because of his training but his body of work, I am not knocking Hugh laurie as a talent but I get the feeling that his role in House is stretching him about as far as he can go. I would recommend any fans of Mr.Lauries to checkout the series Blackadder. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Both actors are superb, Roth made the right choice by using his normal accent and Laurie made a mistake going with a quite irritating American accent bordering on whiny. The House character is a little left of centre so perhaps there is hope that somewhere along the line Hugh Laurie could just start talking normally and say "i've been pulling your leg for years, i'm British" Of course knowing Hugh Laurie as one of my favourite comics ever makes watching House a little difficult for me. I can watch Tim Roth in anything, would love to see him in one of those english gangster films, him and Mcshane together would be awesome.
